On September 25–26, 2025, we had the privilege to facilitate an immersive, hands-on workshop on generative AI (genAI) for 22 dedicated teachers from various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Arunachal Pradesh, hosted in scenic Itanga. With stellar coordination by Delhi-based education reformer and filmmaker K L Rathore , and strong support from TUD Institute for Further and Continuing Education (TUDFaCE) , the event set a benchmark for vocational education in the region.

Bringing together expertise, vision, and practical know-how, the workshop was enabled by the partnership and sponsorship of the Rural Development Society, alongside the operational leadership of the Department for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and technical support from NIELIT Itanagar. Our presenters guided participants through both the theoretical foundations and tangible, classroom-ready applications of genAI, spanning limits and ethics (hallucination, factual accuracy, bias, data protection) to core tools, simulation, games, and 3D scenarios.

With a pronounced emphasis on hands-on learning, educators designed and tested AI-powered teaching prompts, created assessments, integrated translation workflows, and explored new forms of student support. Open forums, active group work, and ice-breaker techniques fueled meaningful exchange and built confidence within the educator community. The bilingual format and the division of roles between the two resource persons ensured maximum participation and accessibility.
Yet, the event highlighted also the challenges of digital transformation in India’s vocational sector: discrepancies between aspiration and infrastructural realities, fragmented digital literacy, and evolving educational frameworks. Our work does not stop here. Next steps include compiling documentation, refining materials, and rolling out a follow-up survey to embed AI-driven practices in everyday teaching.

Our special thanks goes to Rural Development Society , the Department for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Subu Tabin, the NIELIT-India (Itanagar) and all participating ITI teachers for their energy, commitment, and collaborative spirit. Let’s continue strengthening access to future-ready skills and digital capabilities across the region. Excited for what’s next!
